Ice Ice Baby… 02·05·10
February 5, 2010 by admin
As promised, here are some more Iceberg barrels (The last photograph is from a different wave sequence, but is so juicy that I thought I’d include it)…if you look at the 4th shot in the sequence there is a small dark spec right above the right side of the wave (left side if you were on the wave) which can also be seen a little bit better higher in shot 5…that’s a bird with a 12-16″ wingspan…when seeing these blue barrels from the ship I assumed they were about chest high…it was dificult to gauge the size not having anything for scale. It was not until I really looked at these shots that I saw the bird and thus could measure these babies at about 10ft+…Amazing. Check out the Antarctica Portfolio for more shots…

How do I buy copies. Incredible. I … must … have.
Is that for real or have they been Photoshopped?
I’ve never seen water that color
Super sick
Thanks Clif, i’ll email you about the prints…
Hey Ramsnake…not photoshopped, the only thing I used was a polarizing filter. It was a stormy gray day and so the ocean was almost monotone in color, but then we came up onto this berg and circumnavigated it and low and behold on the other side of our initial approach, the iceberg had a long underwater shelf that was perfectly shaped to form these beauties. The ice shelf is so purely white that the refraction of the ambient light comes through the water and emits this really crazy almost neon blue light. Incredible. I sat there in awe and just kept shooting…I wish we could have stayed longer, but after one full circle around the berg, we continued south towards Antarctica…so no photoshop, just pure beautiful nature and God at work. 🙂
Gracias Jamestull…
Yeah ewarner, I hadn’t either…pretty wild!
Well, they are amazing images well done for happening to be in the right place at the right time!
Gracias Ramsnake.
I hope you don’t mind but I’ve pinched one of your pics for the front page of my blog – fully accredited of course
